Jodi is a retired doctor, medical manager and adult educator who has dedicated her adult life to the service of others. Throughout her working life she has strived to be up to date, knowledgeable, approachable and is understanding of differing perspectives. After working for many years in high pressure environments she is aware of the demands and challenges of being a working parent, professional, partner as well as the impact this can have on your health and wellbeing and now enjoys a simpler life in Golden Beach.
After leaving her profession, Jodi has spent the last 6 years training Assistance Animals for individuals with life challenges and has seen firsthand the power of the human-animal bond. This combined with her desire to help others and interest in animal welfare guides her Animal Assisted Therapy practice.
Jodi is passionate about work-life balance, helping others through issues that cause them distress, supporting people with a history of trauma, helping neurodivergent and traumatised children as well as animal wisdom and animal welfare.
Jodi left school just before her 14th birthday due to social and academic challenges. She came from a low socio-economic background with a long family history of social disadvantage. Despite this, she returned to school as an adult completing both a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery. Her personal experiences with social disadvantage and trauma help to guide her empathic practice. She strongly believes that early, age appropriate, evidence-based interventions including Child Centred Play Therapy and Counselling can help individuals to work through their life challenges in a way that has meaning to them.
Meet our animal friends
Animal-assisted therapy has been proven to offer numerous benefits to individuals in need, and our three wonderful dogs, Benni the German Short Haired Pointer, Bella the Moodle, and Freya the Cavoodle, play an essential role in this therapeutic approach.
The presence of these loving and gentle animals can have a profound impact on clients’ emotional and physical well-being. Interacting with animals like Benni, Bella, and Freya can reduce anxiety, alleviate depression, and enhance overall mood. Their comforting and non-judgmental nature creates a safe and supportive environment, allowing individuals to open up and express themselves freely.
Interaction with these animals can promote relaxation, lower blood pressure, improve cognitive function, reduce agitation, promote self-regulation and reduce stress through the release of endorphins. The bond formed with our furry friends during animal-assisted therapy sessions can boost self-esteem, enhance social skills, enhance capacity for boundary setting, provide modelling of safe relationships and facilitate the development of trust and empathy.
